New York City Venue Highlight: The Foundry
I’m so excited to share a wedding venue highlight with you today! New York is home to so many incredible venues, but The Foundry has to be at the top of the list. The interior of the building, located at 42-38 9th Street in Long Island City, NY, is over 3,000 square feet! The Foundry is a stunning, historical New York City wedding venue. Constructed in the late 19th century to manufacture fine varnishes, this building next became home to The Albra Metal Foundry. By 1906, there were several foundries in this area, but this is the only one that remains today. The building was actually abandoned in the 1970s but the Du Val family purchased and restored the property in 1980. They truly breathed life back into the renovated industrial space! The Foundry became a wedding and event venue in 2001 and has been a beloved space by New York couples ever since!
One of the great things about this New York City wedding venue, found in the heart of Queens is that it truly has everything you need to create your dream wedding day. Because the space is raw, you can transform it to be uniquely yours! When you rent The Foundry, you have access to the following spaces: the main space (both the ground floor and mezzanine), The Courtyard (with or without a tent), a fully equipped kitchen, as well as onsite staff for your wedding.
The Foundry can accommodate a maximum of 180 people—125 for a seated dinner indoors, 165 for a seated dinner outdoors in The Courtyard under the tent, or 180 for cocktails or floating dinner in The Courtyard. The Foundry has additional gorgeous spaces for rent including The Terrace, The Greenhouse, The Albra Room, The Pool Room, and the Du Val Suite. Full descriptions for each of the spaces, capacity information, breathtaking pictures, and a virtual tour of The Foundry are available at the following links:
What I Love About the Venue
To say I love The Foundry is no exaggeration. Although it ended up not being possible, this was my first choice to have as my wedding venue when my wife and I were married. I love the history of the building, that it has been used for many different things throughout the years, yet its intriguing beauty has always remained. As you walk through the space, I’m sure you’ll have the same reaction I had the first time I saw it—awe and amazement! The best part is that the impressive size of the venue doesn’t make the space cold. The Foundry is an artsy venue that is warm and inviting.
As a New York City wedding photographer, I especially appreciate the amount of natural light that streams in through the huge window in the main space. This makes the lighting fabulous for photos! I also admire the brick cobblestone work used throughout The Foundry. This beautiful brickwork takes you back to the building’s industrial roots and provides countless, amazing photo backdrops. In the large main space, coves provide an unexpected intimacy, perfect for floral arrangements, tables for two, and small loveseats. The Courtyard, which is an included space when you rent The Foundry, is an outdoor space with nearly 8,500 square feet! This space is a unique, ivy-covered, and plant-filled area with truly incredible views of the Queensboro Bridge. I’ve only mentioned a few of my favorite features of the spaces you will be able to use when you rent The Foundry. Don’t forget there are other separate spaces that can be rented that are also absolutely exquisite. As I am sure you have come to realize, The Foundry provides endless spaces where you can reflect your love story as a couple and fulfill any wedding day dreams the two of you can imagine.
